Getting started with your Relay application.
How do I apply?
Download the Relay Copilot app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Approval & Status
Timelines and updates on your application.
How long does it take to start working with Relay?
Our application process takes just a few minutes. After that, you'll be added to a waitlist and can start delivering as soon as routes are available in your area. For some couriers this can be within 24 hours; for others it may take a couple of weeks.
How do I check the status of my application?
You'll receive push notifications, SMS, and email updates as your application progresses and when you're moved off the waitlist.
Requirements
What you need before applying.
What do I need before starting my application?
You'll need proof of your right to work in the UK, a valid UK driving licence, proof of insurance, and an iOS or Android device. If you're a British citizen, please use your British passport as your right to work document.
Working with Relay
Shifts, zones, and how you choose your work.
Can I choose where I work?
Yes — Relay operates on a flexible, self-employed model. You pick shifts that suit you through the Relay Copilot app, with no minimum hours required. Routes are available across multiple zones so you can work close to home or further afield.
Insurance & Pay
Costs, deductions, and how you're paid.
Is insurance provided by Relay?
Relay's hire & reward insurance partnership is optional. If you opt in, it costs £3.40 per day, deducted from your earnings. You're free to arrange your own qualifying cover instead. To use Relay's partner cover you must be at least 21 years old and meet the partner's conditions.
How and when do I get paid?
You're paid weekly into your bank account for routes completed the previous week. You can also choose to access your earnings as soon as the next day.
Am I employed by Relay?
You're self-employed for tax purposes and responsible for your own self-assessment tax return.
What agreements do I need to accept?
Before you start, you'll need to accept your courier (worker) agreement, the Relay Copilot app terms, our privacy notice, and any partner terms required for services you opt into (for example, insurance or earnings-access partners).
